About CityPlate

CityPlate is a free map of places to eat and drink, with live public transport to get you there. It is independent and non-commercial: no ads, no paid listings, no sign-up.

What it covers

• Wellington: 744 places in 27 suburbs, 137 confirmed licensed.
• Auckland: 2,390 places in 56 suburbs, 359 confirmed licensed.
• Sydney: 3,965 places in 133 suburbs, 901 confirmed licensed.
• Melbourne: 4,413 places in 79 suburbs, 1,326 confirmed licensed.

What you can do

• Find cafes, restaurants, bars, pubs and takeaways by suburb, cuisine, dietary needs and what's open now.
• See food and drink specials on today, happy hours on now, and BYO places.
• Check which places hold an alcohol licence, from the official government registers.
• Watch buses, trains and ferries move live, see departures from nearby stops, plan a trip there and home, and get a get-off alert.
• Save and tick off places on your own device, share a list as a link, and add friends as Pals.

Where the facts come from

• Places: OpenStreetMap contributors, under the Open Database Licence. Only facts are shown: name, location, category, cuisine, hours and simple tags. Places with nothing beyond a name are left out.
• Licensed status: in New Zealand, the national alcohol licence register (Ministry of Justice, ARLA, CC BY 4.0), matched by name and a location within 3 km. In Sydney, the Liquor & Gaming NSW premises list; in Melbourne, Liquor Control Victoria's current licences (both CC BY 4.0), matched by name and a location within 150 m. Only confident matches are shown.
• Live transport: open data from Metlink, Auckland Transport, Transport for NSW and Public Transport Victoria, through CityPlate's own transit server.

There are no prices, ratings, reviews, photos or menus, because those are not open data. Details change, so check with the venue before you go. Spotted something wrong? Fix it on OpenStreetMap and CityPlate picks it up at the next refresh, or use the feedback button in the app.
